The 2nd Amendment

The 2nd Amendment in the Constitution of the United States is pretty clear……the right of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.

Our Founding Fathers had just finished fighting for the freedom of our great nation. They were all too familiar with living under tyranny and wanted to do everything they could to ensure that all future generations of Americans would NEVER experience that again. Not only tyranny from foreign sources but tyranny from within as well.

The Constitution is THE supreme law of the land. Sadly, we have Politicians and Judges that continually try to “re-write” the Constitution to suit THEIR agendas. More often than not, that agenda is NOT what is best for the American people OR their rights.

Fortunately, Supreme Court rulings continue to SUPPORT our right to bear arms (as they should):

Two landmark Supreme Court rulings on the 2nd Amendment:  District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. City of Chicago. Substantiated our RIGHT to keep and bear arms.

Dick Heller sued the District of Columbia over its ban on handguns in the home in 2008. The Supreme Court ruled in Heller’s favor, affirming an individual right to keep handguns in the home for self-defense.

Following the Heller case, the Supreme Court heard a case challenging Chicago’s handgun ban. In this case,  the Supreme Court ruled that the 2nd Amendment applies to state and local governments in addition to the federal government. Thus overturning Chicago’s complete handgun ban.

Our Forefathers did not write the 2 Amendment to ensure future generations could hunt. They wrote it to ENSURE WE THE PEOPLE could defend our families, our communities, and our nation against a tyrannical government. Even if it was our own.

Another reason the 2nd Amendment is vital is that it ensures the preservation of the rest of the Constitution. To see an example of this look no further than current events in Hong Kong. Students in Hong Kong protesting have come under violent fires for simply trying to use their VOICE. Simply put, the 2nd Amendment has the 1st Amendments back. Without the 2nd Amendment, not only the 1st Amendment, but ALL the other Amendments would soon fall.
